Bendiner & Schlesinger, Inc. is a full service independent diagnostic laboratory offering comprehensive clinical and toxicology services. Bendiner & Schlesinger, Inc. is a privately held company that was founded in 1843.

Originally founded as a compounding pharmacy in the days when apothecary was an art, Bendiner & Schlesinger, Inc. began performing laboratory testing in 1902. We are one of America's oldest, most experienced clinical laboratories.

With four generations of the Schlesinger service ethic still going strong, we combine the state of the art full service capabilities of larger laboratories with the personal responsiveness of a local facility. We are dedicated to quality, economy and customer service.

From its earliest history, Bendiner & Schlesinger, Inc. has distinguished itself by offering innovative testing solutions and the latest laboratory techniques available in the marketplace.

In the late 1880s, Maurice Schlesinger installed one of America's earliest X-ray machines. But it was addressing the unmet needs of his physician clientele that inspired him to offer laboratory testing services to doctors and their patients in 1902.

Time Line

• 1843 - Founded as a compounding pharmacy at 47 Third Avenue, New York, NY

• 1880s - Pioneered use of one of America's first X-ray machines, offering X-ray diagnostic services to area physicians

• 1902 - Established independent diagnostic testing laboratory, providing a much-needed alternative to the limited options, slow turnaround and exorbitant prices demanded by local area hospital laboratories of the time

• 1968 - Worked with Dr. Vincent Dole and other early Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program pioneers to develop a comprehensive set of services to meet their drug monitoring and clinical testing needs

• 1991 - Became one of the first independent laboratories to offer HIV diagnostic testing and adapted the bundled services package concept to meet the needs of early HIV/Primary Care clinics

• 2004 - Relocated to a new 80,000 square foot facility at 140 58th Street, Brooklyn, NY.

Today, we continue to incorporate the latest testing methods and instrumentation available into our laboratory operation.
